I collaborated with the good folks over at Osage Orange to help them brand a new LGBTQI+ healthcare center in Portland. Cascades AIDS Project (CAP), a longtime local leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS, wanted to expand their services to reach another marginalized community who weren’t receiving the compassionate care they deserved. Research showed that members of our trans community often face ignorance and discrimination when seeking healthcare services.

What began as a branding project (we need a name and logo) quickly expanded to take full advantage of Osage Orange’s research capabilities. CAP knew they didn’t know what they didn’t know, but that whatever it was, it was a lot. They asked Osage Orange to conduct lots of interviews to understand more about how our trans community members are and aren’t served when it comes to their healthcare needs. By the time the project wrapped up, I’d named the organization (in one round —a personal record!) and written the initial copy for their site, we’d designed a logo, and we also gave them a new intake form to welcome everyone who walked through the door in the most inclusive ways possible, designed the building’s color scheme, fixtures and decor.

Today, Prism Healthcare serves members across the LBGTQI+ spectrum with everything from STI testing to psychotherapy, hormone-replacement therapy to pharmaceuticals.
